Sat 20th - Football match vs muay thai instructors / cliff dive / smoooker fight

There was a students vs instructors football match at a local school which we won 7-6. That was followed by a trip to a remote, rocky cliff that some crazy australian guys had discovered the day before and had decided it would be good to jump from. Not the kind of thing you find in the tourist brochures.

In the evening there was a bbq with amateur muay thai fights and mma cage fights.

Friday in Phuket - Ong Bak 2 + Jiujitsu tournament

We are staying opposite the tiger muay thai gym until monday.
Training has been good, if not rather painful and injury-inducing.
Just take a look at Saad's knee's.

Dwayne and Harman had Jiu Jitsu training in the morning that ended with a class tournament.

Harman won his first ever fight, dominating his opponent on points and then promptly went on to lose his second, getting his neck cranked in the process. A masseuse saw to that later and gave him the most painful massage that he can remember. Suffice to say, it helped a lot.

Dlo lost his first fight but went on to win his next two matches. The final match was against some massive dude with a big beard and after being 6 points behind managed to stage a last minute comeback winning the fight with an armbar. Was pretty sweet and there was a large amount of cheering from the other fighters. He got to fight in the cage which was awesome (Having your head crushed against the metal cage is a lot more painful then it looks in the UFC).

Saad turned up right at the end. Today's muay thai session was obviously in his bed.

We went to the mall to see Ong Bak 2 afterwards. The cinema here is ten times better than anything in London and it only cost £3 a ticket. Dwayne was most moved by the tribute to the King of Thailand at the beginning of the film.

Higlights of the day :

Saad and Dwayne arguing for an hour about the most effective martial art. So dry.

Saad going to the pharmacy for about the 50th time but this time not buying anything. He just likes going to pharmacies. He was upset that the one in the mall was closed at 1030.

Saads fascination with the slimming clinic in the mall and liposuction.

Harman insisting on going to the mall to buy professional football boots for the BBQ kickaround.

(Dlo) Clang of the day :

Dwayne leaving the fridge door open, claiming that the pizza box was too big for the fridge. Upon inspection I found that he just couldn't be bothered to move the water bottle that was in the way. (Comment by Dwayne: I did close the fridge but someone opened it during the night)

Thursday in Phuket - Me like da chickan

More training at Tiger Muay Thai....
With Saad out of action following his death defying escape from white water rafting on Wednesday, Harman and Dwayne ventured down the road in an epic search of tasty Thai munch. We were hoping that receptionists attempts to convince us that the local chicken shack was closed on a Thursday was a typical Thai ruse to bait us into eating at the resort restaurant....turns out it was actually closed and overly cynical anti Thai tourist-conning mindset was unjustified. Fortuntately down the road was a bustling local food munch fest with live fish, various curries, kebabs and other Thai treats.

Dwayne decided that following his morning session it was necessary to eat two chickens, two bags of rice, a Thai salad and a corn on the cob (he actually ate half of that....eyes bigger than stomach). We bought some schnacks back for our fallen comrade Saad...who momentarily pretended that he wasnt hungry but went on to munch a corn on the cob.

After an extended cotch at the resort we decided that a steam would be most beneficial for our battle weary bodies...unfortunately the Thai idea of steam room was something entirely different from what we had pictured...it consisted of a bucket of boiling water in a shower curtain large enough for one person. Despite numerous attempts to shotgun the one person "steam room" we decided to head back to the resort to feast on the diet of fighting champions - pepperoni pizza delivery.

Pass out. Prepare for more training tomorrow morning.

Tuesday Phuket Town - Butterfly park, big temple and tasty food on Phuket Bay

Highlight of the day:

Saad thought it would be a good idea to get up and close and personal with the monkey in the photo, to which the monkey replied by jumping at him, baring his teeth. Saad tried again but the monkey was not best pleased. Don't piss off mountain monkeys with big bottoms.

Buying a fake millipede and putting it next to the drain in Saad's shower. He didn't enjoy that one. His maid thought it would be even funnier to do up his room and put the fake millipede right on his pillow next to the jasmine flower. Nice touch.

Clang of the day:

Harman taking an umbrella into the butterfly enclosure. So so lame.
